Gunners are known to be in race to land Martin Ødegaard as a loan move looks likely after statements from Mikel Arteta
Arsenal have over the past few weeks seen some players leave the squad either on loan or permanent moves as attention now switch to possible incoming players.
Mesut Ozil to Fenerbahçe, Sokratis terminating contract by mutual agreement, William Saliba out on loan and others have seen Arsenal squad number reduced as Arteta claimed the initial was unmanageable.
With the transfer window just weeks to it’s end, Arsenal are also exposed to the risk of no marking any replacement for the vacant positions and Arteta also confirmed this.
Speaking to the club’s website, Arteta stated clearly that there are chances the club may not complete desired transfer deals.
“We are in that process right now,” Arteta said. “We’ve done the first part (trimming the squad) more or less and now we are focusing on the second phase.
With the second phase meaning attempting to land new members Arteta continued;
“Obviously this market and the context makes it really difficult but we are looking at options and we will see what we can do.
“We are looking at various positions because the movements that we’ve made in this transfer window with some players leaving the club leaves us a little bit short in certain areas. If we can then we will do it, if we can’t then we will just keep going with what we have.“
Its now understood that Arsenal despite stating earlier the squad was more than required, are now disclosing to be shorting players in ‘certain areas’.
Moving on, Arteta said; “We could not carry on with 31 players in the squad,” Arteta said. “This is unmanageable. When you have to leave some of the foreign players out it makes it even more difficult.
“For a few weeks maybe it’s ok but to do it for months and maintain the health and ambition and the chemistry around the place it’s really complicated. One of the main objectives was to make some decisions of how we’re going to offset that.”
Arsenal have been linked to chances of landing several names for the role Ozil left vacant despite the presence of Emile Smith Rowe who has been impressive in replacing Ozil.
Norwich’s Buendia is unlikely to be heading to Gunners as his talks already entered uncertainty mode and Arsenal are not ready to splash certain amount of money on players of calibre.
The next name on the list after seeing Arsenal forget Houssem Aouar is Martin Ødegaard.
The North London side has been lately linked to landing Ødegaard but it’s currently believed that the deal may not be permanent yet.
The Attacking Midfielder could likely join in but on loan terms following decisions by Arsenal board.
Martin Ødegaard joined Real Madrid for a €3m price from Strømsgodset back in 2015 and could making an English trip depending on how Arsenal deal turns out.
