Chelsea have recorded their first 3 points of the 2020/2021 Premier League season after first half Jorginho penalty opened the scoring path for 3-1 victorious Blues.
In a game that disclosed some sought of little poor communication existing between the Blues squad, Frank Lampard’s men managed to end the game in victory despite having lost the full time possession to Brighton.
Timo Werner of course did a good job as expected with his pushy pace committed the home team’s defense into fouling him in the 18-yard box, warranting for a penalty that Jorginho netted using Bruno Fernandes style of kick.
Asked about the former Leipzig man, Lampard said, ‘I love the way Timo pops up in different areas,’ said Chelsea manager, Lampard.
‘He’s not a front man that attaches to centre-backs. Sometimes he can start from a bit deeper and we saw that with the burst of pace [for the penalty] the ball was overplayed but he still got there.
‘He has that about him. He’s got a real hunger to score goals. I think we saw a lot of signs of what he’s going to bring’
Chelsea managed to end the first 45 minutes leading the game and Brighton not only lost the lead, also did lose former Liverpool man, Adam Lallana who got injured at 44 mins and had to be subbed by Aaron Connolly.
Pretty performance by Tariq Lamptey as the 19-year-old stared majorly in containing Mason Mount and also provided threat from the right side of the pitch as he took charge of both the 2 and 7 in Graham Potter’s 3-4-1-2 formation.
Lampard’s 4-2-3-1 allowed Timo Werner and Kai Havertz go upfront like a some sought of 8 and 9 pairing as they did pretty well in the front together despite having not scored on their debut game.
Despite having participating quiet well in the game, following him chasing down an opponent from the center to his 18-yard box to win a ball he had lost, Kai Havertz has shown he would some time to adapt to English football.
When as about Kai Havertz’s performance, Lampard said, “‘I liked him. It’s not a game where you come away and say ‘there’s 10 vintage moments’ but I thought there were moments of big quality and calmness.
‘It’s a big ask [to settle in immediately] there’s lot on his shoulders for the singing that he was he’s young and coming into a new league.
‘He plays the game at such a quality and the way in which he receives the ball. We saw a few glimpses of that. We saw him sprint back 80 yards to make a tackle after giving the ball away. Everything I’ve seen in terms of his character is spot on.
‘His quality will come through. It’s asking a lot for him tonight but we saw glimpses. We’re going to see a lot more of him, I think he’s a hugely talented young player.’
Loftus-Cheek also did tried pressing the attack multiple times but he failed as it wasn’t that as desired starter for the English man who brought lot of happiness to the fans seeing him on the start list.
Kepa Arrizabalaga might probably be in the mouth of some people after failing to save Leandro Trossard’s low curler short that managed to drive through the defense and then past the Spanish goalkeeper.
“I’m very happy with Kepa and Kepa is here and he is our keeper!” – Frank Lampard
Thanks to Reece James who put Chelsea back in front with an outside 18 screamer that went like a flash into Brighton goalpost just 2 minutes after their equalizer.
Kourt Zouma also got on the score line today with a deflection goal at the 66th minute following cross from Reece James.
