Frank Lampard rules out Chelsea right back as Blues look to get back to winning ways when they battle a Manchester City without 5 preferred players
Reece James is said to be unavailable for Chelsea home game against former EPL champions, Manchester City on Sunday night.
With Ziyech returned to the starting 11, it could come as a sought of setback to have Reece James out but the presence of Cesar Azpilicueta would help reduce pressure.
Speaking to the press, Lampard revealed the 21-year-old has a little muscle injury that will keep him out of the game tomorrow.
“Reece James is out, he’s got a small hamstring problem,” Lampard said as he also spoke of Hakim Ziyech’s return.
“He’s fit to train and has trained the last two or three days so I’ll have to make the decision on whether he’s ready to start,” Lampard added.
Chelsea sit on the 5th place with Everton’s loss against West Ham yesterday boosting Blues chances of climbing back to the top 4 after falling short during the late days of the 2020 year.
Manchester City on other hand are to be without 5 of their preferred players after the COVID outbreak in their camp which even led to the postponement of their Everton clash.
Speaking at the conference, Lampard shared that he doesn’t see chances of Chelsea vs Manchester City been postponed as Guardiola stated his men are ready to battle.
“I’ve not been given the chances of the game being postponed but I’m aware of the situation and at the moment the game is on,” the 42-year-old added.
“We know that Manchester City had some positives within their training ground. We have had a couple ourselves but not on the playing staff and that’s the current situation.
Chelsea are also reported to have had some tests returned positive but fortunately it didn’t affect the squad as it was only few staffs who are currently recovering already after being isolated.
