Chelsea Press Conference Frank Lampard provides crucial updates ahead of West Ham United game

Lampard provides update ahead of the Chelsea clash with West Ham United on Monday as he reveals return of Hakim Ziyech and Hudson Odoi to the training ground

Chelsea look forward to a bounce back after dropping all points in their last two Premier League games, with the first been Everton and Wolverhampton afterwards.

The last two games saw an unpleasant performance from Kai Havertz who was criticized mostly by the fans with Frank Lampard now addressing the German’s issue as he was asked today about the former Leverkusen man.

“For Chelsea fans and us, we must give him time,” Lampard said as he calls for support other than criticizing the former Bundesliga star.

“I’m not saying it’ll take a long time for Kai, we just need to give him time to settle in on and off the pitch,” the former Chelsea midfielder added.

Despite being a fine performer during his days in the Bundesliga, Kai Havertz is yet to establish his ground since arriving Stamford Bridge.

Formations are also other factors affecting Havertz’s performance in the squad and according to words of the manager, the 4-3-3 formation suits Havertz than any other.

“It does,” he said when asked if the 4-3-3 suits Havertz. “Before Covid he was playing very well as the right-sided eight but consistency is sometimes a good thing and what I want to get for him.”

“The reaction around him… he had no pre-season, then got Covid and all eyes are on because of the price tag but we need huge perspective here.”

“Not saying it will take a long, long time but he does need time to settle in. For Chelsea fans and us, we must give him time.”

The Duo were left out in Chelsea’s last two games after picking up hamstring injuries before the Everton game.

Ziyech’s came during the Leed’s victory while Hudson’s was discovered during a training session ahead of the Everton game.

With Pulisic already back in the squad, it would come as a great addition having both Hakim Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi also back.

According to the manager today, he shared that both stars have returned to the training ground, although it’s yet to be discloses if they will be fit for the West Ham United game.

The squad has been seen lately struggling to fit in with the absence of both players and returning could mark the end of their losing spell after the side went two games without a point.

The manager was further on questioned on his decision to switch Timo Werner’s position for that of Pulisic’s during the last game as most persons did blame the switch for the loss as they revealed pressure from the Blues reduced after the switch.

Pulisic been used in a position not natural his has overtime declined his output and contribution as he always makes great impact when deployed at the rightful position.

In justifying his decisions, Lampard said it’s solely on him to decide when players switch positions in a game as the last couldn’t an exception.

Lampard went on to share his belief that both stars would soon adapt to both positions over time despite current issues.

Timo Werner is a ‘quick to react’ to react player and of such easily anticipates any ball directed at him, which is one of the needed qualities of a good number 9.

But since his arrival from RB Leipzig, Frank Lampard has opted to use Werner more as a winger than a Center Forward as he prefers having Tammy Abraham upfront before Olivier Giroud reclaimed his spot in the squad.

Following the German’s arrival, Giroud earlier on disclosed of how he planned making the Center Forward decision a hard one for Frank Lampard and his recent scoring spree explains that better.

Frank Lampard is faced with the decision of picking between Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham from the front role, with Timo and Oli being in a better form than Tammy recently.

Although it’s no doubt Abraham will be back at the top of his game soon but with just Oli, Ziyech and Hudson returning to the squad leaves Lampard with the option of having Pulisic at the other wing.

Speaking of his decision to use Timo as a winger, Lampard made reference of the striker’s games for his national side saying; “When I don’t have a reference of a target man, I get asked why I am not playing a Tammy or Oli. Timo has played in all those roles across the front three in Germany.”

Timo still has more years to spend with the Blues likewise Abraham, unlike Giroud who is already in his 30s and could leave anytime he feels the club’s decision to hand just a 1-year extension isn’t good for him anymore.

And should the winger’s injury woes persist, the club could go in hunt for other wingers who could provide support while Timo and Abraham are left to the front role.

Declan Rice started football as a Chelsea kid and afterwards decided to switch sides as he joined West Ham United.

With the club lately linked to reuniting with the English man, Lampard was quizzed on what he think of Declan earlier on leaving for the Hammers.

“He is a fantastic player for West Ham and England so fair play. His journey in leaving Chelsea to go to West Ham is a good story to hear. It shows the strength of character,” Lampard said.

Blues are expected to swing in for Declan Rice chase once the window opens but The Telegraph correspondent, Matt Law believes otherwise.

According to Law, Chelsea could possibly go for wingers other than pushing to land Declan Rice by January.
