Frank Lampard held the press conference minutes back as he disclosed of what Chelsea squad could like when facing Manchester City on Sunday
Chelsea could be looking at a top 4 return should they be able to defeat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City with the side hit by COVID19 lately.
Blues fell off winning ways after they lost star man, Ziyech to a Hamstring injury during Leeds United game during the early days of December.
The side struggled with games as they only realized to actualize just one win out of five games.
Hakim Ziyech injury update
The Moroccan has been confirmed to have returned to training as he trained with the squad for the two days already, according to Lampard.
“He is fit to train and he has been training for a few days,” Lampard confirmed.
Ziyech has proven to be an integral part of the Blues squad and his return could serve a morale booster for the struggling squad.
In reflection to how tough his mentality is, Ziyech told of he featured in street football games before, “When you play on the street,” Ziyech said.
“It’s a hard way of football. I was always playing with people that were older than me, and they didn’t hold back! It made me stronger & gave me a tough mentality. I still play every game with that mentality,” he added.
Reece James Injury Update
Reece James is also another star sidelined after returning from his previous injury as Lampard confirmed the English man is yet to return to full fitness.
Speaking to the press Lampard said; “Reece James is out with a small hamstring problem”.
Cesar Azpilicueta remains good replacement for the 21-year-old, although suggestions have hinted on Lampard taking the chance to hand youth star, Livermento an opportunity to feature in the senior team.
Chelsea Coronavirus update
With the virus reportedly back to the EPL, Manchester City’s Everton game had to be called off during the weekend after 5 Cityzens tested positive to the virus.
Speaking to the press, Lampard shared that the men’s section also has been hit by the virus recently but no at a bad rate as he disclosed that only some few number of the staffs were affected and have already began their isolation process.
The former Chelsea midfielder went on to state that none of the players have been affected so far by the virus as he also talked on Manchester City’s situation when asked if he sees chances of the game been called off?
“I haven’t been given the chances of the game being cancelled,” Frank said. “At the moment, the game is on. Man City have had some positives in their training ground and that’s the situation.”
Although yet to be revealed who they are, its been reported that 5 of the City players are currently tested positive to the virus and Blues won’t learn of their identities until the match line up is rolled out.
This would come as a setback to Pep Guardiola who is fighting to restore City’s title challenge hopes.
