Philippe Coutinho might still have a lot of years to spend with Barcelona according to what the Barca’s manager, Ernesto Valverde told the media.
Coutinho has since this season, missed out in a lot of games for Barcelona, starting just 15 out of 22 appearances and has been on the bench since December 2nd till date.
The player’s disappearance from the pitch has raised several rumors of him planning to leave the club but it turns out that it isn’t so.
Coutinho’s career started back in 2008 with Vasco da Gama at his age of 16 and his outrageous performances helped him secure a move to Inter Milan at the same year, but had to remain with the club for two years due the Italian football law that prohibited foreign player below 18 years of age from featuring in the Seria A.
On reaching 18, Coutinho flew to Milan to join the I Nerazzurri under Rafael Benitez and was then referred to as “the future of Inter Milan’s football”.
Coutinho remained with Inter until the 2011/2012 season when he had to move to Spain to join Espanyol on a loan deal due to him finding it difficult to establish himself in the Inter’s squad.
January 26th, 2013 Coutinho had returned to Inter Milan and is faced with a move to Anfield which Inter accepted for a fee of £8.5 million and Philipe joined The Reds 4 days later.
The Brazilian became an integral player in the Liverpool’s squad and remained with the Reds till 2017/2018 season when Barcelona made a bid worth £72 million for 26 year old, but was rejected by Liverpool.
Liverpool was reported to have asked for a whooping sum of £183 million to let the Brazilian leave to Camp Nou. The claim was made by Barca but Liverpool denied it.
On January 6th, Coutinho moved to Camp Nou after Liverpool reached an agreement with Barcelona and Barca was to pay the sum of £142 million for the Brazilian.
Up till date, Philipe has remained with Barcelona and despite rumors of him been linked with a move to Manchester United, Barcelona’s manager has assured the player that his services is still need and appreciated by Barcelona and they do not intend to offload him anytime soon.
“He’s a player that thinks more about the team than himself and there are no doubts about him being one of the best players in the world. He’s always played well for Barca, he could play from the off. Ernesto said
“Barca signed him because he’s one of the best in the world and he’s going to give us a lot. He’s got many years left on his contract and a lot to give to Barcelona.”
The manager ended.
