Former Arsenal manager, Unai Emery set to take over at Villarreal after 8-months without a job.

Unai Emery is set to be announced as Javi Calleja’s replacement any time soon as reports disclosed the former Arsenal and PSG manager has been in talks with the Spanish side since the knockdown period.

Emery has been out of work since November 2018 when he was fired by North London based Arsenal after 18-months with the Gunners.

Having been appraising his chances and options, Standard reported that the 48-year-old will be taking charge at Estadio de la Cerámica where he would get to replace current manager, Javi Calleja despite impressive current output by the Spanish side.

Agreements have been reportedly reached between Unai Emery and Villarreal as all talks were done during the Corona Virus pandemic lock-down period and Emery’s announcement is imminent.

Villarreal CF is based in a city in the province of Castellón within the Valencian Community just 63 kilometres from Unai Emery’s family house located in Valencia as its likened that the proximity of his potential office from home is one of the reasons behind him picking the job.

On the other hand, Villarreal is a stable and well managed club that is likely to give Unai Emery more time and less scrutiny for implement his philosophy on the team than other top flight clubs.

Amid reports of the Javi Calleja likely not going to continue as manager of El Submarino Amarillo, the Alcala de Henares born said; “I don’t know, I have a clear conscience. I’m happy with the season. I can’t say much more. It’s others who have to talk.”

“They told me they would speak to me after everything that is coming out.”

With the season now over, its expected Villarreal CF make it officially announced that Emery has taken over from Javi Calleja as Villarreal manager.

The last game on Sunday had Santi Cazorla and Bruno Soriano make their least appearances for the club as The Yellow Submarine triumphed over Eibar, marking their 7th win since the resumption of the season.
