Four Things Spotted in Chelsea Training Ahead of Rennes Clash

The Blues will tackle French side, Rennes in the return leg of their UEFA Champions League Group E tie after trashing the Ligue One outfit 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the first leg.

With some key first team players like Havertz and Pulisic missing in action in the first leg, the Blues will mostly field a more formidable lineup for the return leg based on sources from Cobham with the return of Pulisic and Havertz from injury and coronavirus respectively.

The Blues are definitely in high spirit and geared up for tonight’s clash

There’s no denying the Blues are in high spirit and fired up to take on Rennes.

This is definitely no surprise given the Blues’ impressive run of form so far in the premier league and also their table-topping sprint on the log in UCL. With consecutive wins and a draw against Sevilla, the Blues sit at the summit of the group after three games and would edge closer to finishing top of the group with a win tonight.

Thiago Silva, Havertz and the rest all back after missing Newcastle clash last Saturday

Brazilian defender, Thiago Silva is certainly back with the West Londoners following a late arrival from international duties that saw him miss Chelsea’s win at St James’ Park last weekend.

The 36-year-old was captured with teammates as they further preparations for tonight’s tie.

Also missing in action at Newcastle was club record signing Kai Havertz, despite the 21-year-old testing negative for coronavirus earlier, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard decided to give the German more recovery space before coming back to action.

Pulisic is also a key returnee for the Blues having been out for three weeks since picking up a knock during Chelsea’s pre-match warm-up at Turf Moor.

Antonio Rudiger and Mason Mount caught the eye of observers

Antonio Rudiger was impressive enough during training to attract the applause of observers after also impressing in Chelsea’s win at St James’ Park last Saturday.

The 27-year-old has endured limited playing time this season with the arrival of Thiago Silva at the heart of Chelsea defence and is now in a fierce battle with Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen for regular playing time.

Another spectacular performer during training is English youngster, Mason Mount.

The 21-year-old has been subject to social media criticisms from Blues’ fans following inconsistent level of performances by the Chelsea midfielder which is perhaps responsible for his impressive outing during training earlier.

Coach Frank Lampard looked pleased with the players performance in training

Frank Lampard was quite impressed with the level of energy radiated by Blues players during training today despite concerns of fatigue occasioned by the tight schedule of fixtures. Yesterday, the Blues boss described fixtures coming up for the West Londoners as ‘brutal’, pointing out that early qualification could be a plus, but would still be aiming to win the group.
