Inter Milan has confirmed the signing of free agent, Diego Godin.
The Uruguayian international stated earlier in May that he will be leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of the season when his contract runs off.
So the italian giant have confirmed through their Twitter handle that they have secured the player. In the statement, they said “There is a new Sheriff in town. Diego Godin is an Inter player, #Welcomediego”.
Godin spent nine years at Atletico Madrid, having won a La Liga title, a Copa del Rey and two Europa Leagues, he reached two UEFA Champions League final so considered as legend at the club
The 33 year old legendary defender is expected to finalise his move by Monday, 1st July 2019 and to sign a three-year deal that ends in June 2022 and may see him being earning highest at the club.
His contract with Atletico Madrid ended on 30th June and he earlier said he won’t be extending it. Manchester United were in race to sign him last year, but it seems Inter is his fate.
Godin will be looking towards a great season in San Ciro with the new boss Antonio Conte who was appointed in June. With their Champions league spot, their is much expected of the player.
The defender was recently in action in Copa America with Uruguay but unfortunately was defeated by Peru after Suarez missed his Penalty. Now he will have time to finalize his move and get ready for the upcoming season.
