Just In: Solskjaer hits back at Klopp after FA’s decision amid penalty claims

Solskjaer finally hits back at Klopp for penalty claims ahead of City clash

According to Jurgen Klopp, not handing his side penalties against Southampton was unfair as he referenced on Man United been given more penalty in 2 years than him in 5 years

Following their 1-0 loss to Southampton, Liverpool manager believes the referee should have handed his boys two penalties during the game.

With his comments drawing the attention of the FA who in turn decided on the action to take towards the manager, Ole Solskjaer has finally hit back at the former Borussia Dortmund Boss.

Speaking ahead of their EFL cup game tonight, Solskjaer told Skysports he won’t spend his time counting as he laughed off the claim with his focus fixated at ending Man City’s EFL dominance tonight.

“That’s a fact? Probably,” Solskjaer said. “That’s probably going to be my answer, that’s a fact that we’ve got more than them. I don’t count how many penalties they’ve had, so if they want to spend time on worrying about when we get fouled in the box… I don’t spend time on that.”

Making reference to a penalty that was overlooked during Man United’s FA cup Semi final defeat to Chelsea, Solskjaer continued; “I can’t talk on behalf of other managers, why they say things like this.

“I felt it worked last year in the semi in the FA Cup, because Frank [Lampard] spoke about it and we had a nailed-on penalty that we should have had, that we didn’t get.

“So maybe it’s a way of influencing the referees. I don’t know. But I don’t worry about that. When they foul our players it’s a penalty when it’s inside the box.”

Man United have an opportunity to overtake the defending champions when they face Burnley before making a trip to Anfield to battle out points with the Reds.

Should United manage to realize a draw if not a win against Sean Dyche‘s men they would go top of the League before heading to Merseyside to try sealing the spot when they face Klopp’s men.

What do statistics actually say about these penalty claims?

According to penalty stats, Klopp’s Liverpool have won 30 EPL penalties since his arrival from Dortmund in 2015 while Man United have been awarded 32 penalties since the start of the 2018/2019 season.
