‘It would not be a blow at all if Granit Xhaka left,’ Campbell said.

‘Look, he has been at the club five years and in that time the club haven’t qualified for the Champions League which is not good enough.

‘He had a decent half a season for us but the time has come for us to upgrade. It definitely needs to be done.

‘Italian football would suit him better I think. Selling him would give us a cash injection and that we can go out there and buy somebody else, somebody better.’

Although The 28-year-old’s future has been the subject of much speculation, he has always debunked news of his exit.

Responding to speculation linking him with a move to Roma,

Xhaka said last week: ‘Of course I read the rumours too. But now I’m one hundred percent focused on the national team.

That’s more important than Arsenal or rumours right now.

‘I still have a two-year contract in London.

And at Arsenal they know what they got in me.

When the time comes and we can, may or have to talk about a transfer, I’ll be here.”

‘Honestly: I didn’t hear what Mourinho said. But that makes you proud.

Everyone knows Mourinho, knows what he has achieved.

Mourinho knows how to win titles. You can now see what work I have done over the past few years.’ He added.

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal would make a decision on the Midfielder soon but should he wish to leave, he would be allowed to.
