Arguably the World greatest player, Lionel Messi is no longer contracted to any club as his long term contract officially come to an end.
Prior to this, big clubs from across Europe have began making attempts to secure the services of the 34-year-old even tho Barcelona have made it clear they are close to a renewal.
Lionel Messi future have been in doubt since about 12 months ago following the club’s 2-8 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals in what was believed to be Messi’s worst defeat.
Although there have been reports that He[Messi] would renew with the Spanish Giants, no such developments have taken place thereby giving a pathway for other clubs to sign him.
There is a general consensus within the Barcelona board that Lionel Messi and his agent will work towards a contract, but there is no evidence that the deal is done.
Messi being a free agent is bound to attract the attention of clubs across the world including Arsenal but the leading scorer in the Spanish league have sent a transfer message to clubs looking to secure his signature.
When asked about his contract situation at Barcelona, Messi said:
“I believe my agent together with the Barcelona board are working towards it.
It’s the Copa America now so I’m fully focused with my country”. He added.
While this message might hint that he will remain with Barcelona, potential suitors are still not ruling out a move for the Argentine.
