Lionel Messi could face a two year ban from CONMEBOL.
The South American football federation may be tempted to sanction Messi after his rant following his red card against Chile.
The five time Balon D’or winner was carelessly sent off by the Referee for hitting former Cardiff midfielder Gary Medel in Argentina’s 2-1 third-place play-off win over Chile.
Medel reacted too by hitting Messi back resulting to the both Captains being sent off.
That makes it Messi’s ever second Red card after he was sent off in 2005, 14 years ago and now in 2019 while playing for the same Argentina.
Messi was though Furious after their defeat in hands of Brazil in the Semi Finals and after he was sent off in Third place play off against Chile, he reacted and said “Is no doubt, the whole thing is set up for Brazil”
He went on to say “I did not want to be part of this corruption. We shouldn’t have to be part of this disrespect we suffered during the Copa America”
He added “We could have gone further, but we weren’t allowed into the final. Corruption, referees and all the rest stopped people from enjoying the football.”
After this out bourst, CONMEBOL may be forced to Ban the Barcelona Super star for two years as reports say.
CONMEBOL States “It’s unacceptable there have been unfounded accusations that misrepresent the truth and put to judgement the integrity of Copa America”
“There are rules in place that prohibit insulting the South American Football Federation or anyone working with or for the organisation”
“Accepting the outcome of a match with respect is a fundamental pillar of fair play. The same goes for the refereeing decisions”
“These represent a lack of respect for the competition.”
