Jose Mourinho was bit cunny when asked if he would like ex-Tottenham forward Gareth Bale to join his squad in Tottenhma, though he was thankful to the Waleshman for his word of praise.

Bales future at Santiago Barnebue is uncertain and a move back to the Premier League is likely to happen, with the Real Madrid forward still held high regard back in Britain.

“Come on, I don’t need to answer that,” Mourinho said when asked if he would be happy to have Bale back in White Hart Lane, doing so with a smile.

The 30-year old has clearly been giving attention on what has been happening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium recently and he is pleased with the appointment of Mourinho as the head coach.

“Having Mourinho there is an amazing statement from the club, I think he is a serial winner,” Bale told BT Sport.

“If Tottenham want to win trophies, then I don’t think there is a better partnership.”

Mourinho responded to the statement in Wednesday’s post-match conference after Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

“It is nice, I thank him,” Mourinho said.

“I didn’t know. If Gareth said I am really pleased.”
