The former Man United defender believes the Red Devils shouldn’t continue with chase to land Atletico Madrid star
Manchester United have been tipped against one of their top transfer targets as Rio Ferdinand clams the 30-year-old isn’t a necessity.
The back man has been a name on Man United’s radar as they continue pursuit for Aaron Wan-Bissaka back up.
The left back is believed to likely push for his peak if similar measures employed for Luke Shaw is used on him.
Landing Alex Telles from Porto saw Luke Shaw fighting hard to maintain his spot which he has so far done well.
United view landing Trippier could do same to Wan-Bissaka but this doesn’t go well with former Man United defender who has tipped his side to back off from the chase.
“I don’t think they’d buy someone to come in and play [every week], I think whoever’s coming in there is going to be playing backup,” Ferdinand said.
“They spent £50m on Wan-B.
“He [Trippier] wouldn’t be my choice if I’m honest, but I see the qualities he has.
“But Trippier definitely wouldn’t be my choice in terms of the profile of player that I’d be bringing in to play as a No2 right-back.”
