Chelsea were on another planet on Wednesday night as the firing Blues put four past Sevilla in their own backyard with Olivier Giroud grabbing the whole of it to remind Chelsea boss Frank Lampard of what he’ll be missing if eventually the Frenchman leaves Stamford Bridge.
The Blues wasted no time in getting the goals underway, despite nine changes made to the squad that started on Sunday against Tottenham, with Olivier Giroud quickly registering his first of four with a composed finish after receiving a scintillating pass from Kai Havertz.
The Frenchman was again on target with just few minutes into the second half as he comfortably struck home a fine assist received from Matteo Kovacic to extend the Blues lead.
The former Arsenal man proved to hot to handle for the Sevilla defense when he headed home a cross from N’Golo Kante after a stunning sprint from the latter to provide the assist.
When it looked like the Blues were done scoring, the Frenchman once more stood up to calmly despatch a penalty kick towards the end of the match, ensuring the Blues top Group E in the UEFA champions league.
Efforts by the Spaniards to find a consolation proved abortive as the Blues showed character necessary to travel back to West London with maximum points and a clean sheet.
Next up for the Blues is a visit by Leeds United during the weekend as the Blue outfit hope to continue their impressive run of form this term with a win against a ‘determined’ newly-promoted Leeds United at Stamford Bridge.
