Man Utd are confident their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho will be a success – but they face an anxious wait. Speculations are high as United still remain the lead club pressing forward to sign the Dortmund starlet

The 20-year-old winger is United’s primary transfer target this summer and is keen on a switch to Old Trafford.

Dortmund are aware this summer is the best time for them to sell their star man who they are resigned to losing in the near future.

The Independent report Dortmund are willing to sanction a transfer providing United meet their asking price.

However any deal still rests on whether United qualify for the Champions League next season, which could scupper the move entirely.

United must get a result against Leicester in their final match of the season on Sunday, but defeat could see them slip out of the Premier League’s top four.

They would still have a chance of qualification by winning the Europa League if that proved to be the case, but club chiefs would prefer to have their place in the competition assured so they can get the ball rolling on a deal for Sancho.

Negotiations are expected to be lengthy given the size of the transfer, and both clubs are still yet to agree on a fee.

Dortmund are not prepared to budge from their £100million valuation, even in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sources suggested previously that United were only willing to pay half that amount, though their budget would be significantly improved with the guarantee of extra revenue from Champions League football.

They are expected to start the bidding with a package worth £80million – a considerable portion of which would be dependent on add-ons and bonuses.

Whether Dortmund are willing to bend on their demands remains to be seen, but club chiefs are aware the player’s value will be a lot less next year.

The club have already made arrangements to replace Sancho, too, as they close in on a deal for Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica, while 17-year-old Jude Bellingham has already arrived from Birmingham.
