Timo Werner his goal-drought during Chelsea’s last match as the Blues cruised 2-0 past Newcastle United
Chelsea are back into the top 4 and thanks for a Thomas Tuchel‘s philosophy which helped reshape things under a very short time in charge of the Blues.
Timo Werner was although involved in the opening goal against the Magpies but his extension goal provided more happiness to the club as a whole as it marked a struggling end to his goal scoring drought.
Speaking on how he unlocked Timo Werner’s scoring spree, Tuchel spoke majorly on returning Marcos Alonso to the squad as the main reason Timo now performs better.
“We know he likes to drift out to the wing between full-backs and centre-halves,” the German spoke of Timo.
“So we try to bring him to these positions, he likes to play next to the guy who is the reference in the middle.”
Marcos Alonso having been left out for so long by the former boss, felt so excited to return to the squad as he marked the return day with a superb goal.
Tuchel disclosed Marcos Alonso running in between lines and overlapping defenders has been helping create the spaces Timo Werner loves to have and that gives him time and options to unleash his plans.
“We put Marcos more on the inside to have Timo in the high position to use his speed.”
Chelsea are up next against Southampton and it’s likely to have an explosive Timo Werner against the Saints just like the last time.
