According to Tuchel, Chelsea are lucky to have a goalkeeper like Mendy who doesn’t show pride to take off the field
Last night was a tough battle for Chelsea against Villarreal as both sides have lost their last two Super Cup appearances.
With it being the third, Chelsea were just as determined as Villarreal to end their drought and this made the battle even more fierce.
Hakim Ziyech handed Chelsea the lead in the first half, but Gerard Moreno helped Villarreal bounce back with a super fine finish after recieving a back heel pass.
The game was fought until the last minutes when Tuchel decided to make a tactical change that would affect the game entirely.

Speaking on substituting Kepa Arrizabalaga for Edouard Mendy in the last two minutes of the game, Tuchel was clearly thankful to Edouard Mendy while he also praised Kepa for maintaining the stats shown on the data he saw.
“We talked about it with the goalkeepers when we had the first knockout game against Barnsley,” Tuchel said after the game.
“Kepa is has the best save percentage with penalties, the analysts showed me the data and since then I decided.”
“Edouard Mendy is happy to do this for the team,” he added.
“There is proof that Kepa is better in this discipline and these guys are true team players,” he continued. “I am happy for Kepa and for Edou, to have a goalkeeper like this that does not show the pride to not step off the field,” he added as he reflected on the incident between Kepa and Maurizio Sarri durning their final against Manchester City when Arrizabalaga refused to come off the pitch.
