UEFA chooses Sevilla to host Europa League 2020 finals

UEFA decide to honor late Sevilla player José Antonio Reyes by hosting the UEFA Europa League final at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Sevilla has began to upgrade its facilities to meet UEFA standards as it’s stadium was chosen by UEFA as the hosting ground for 2020 Europa League finals.

UEFA President, Aleksander Čeferin announced this today after the executive committee meeting was held in Slovenia.

Royal Spanish Football Federation President, Luis Rubiales was said to be the main figure behind the motive to host the final in Seville according to AS.

“That final will be in memory of José Antonio Reyes ,” Rubiales said as he supported Seville’s candidacy against the likes of Paris and Georgia.

Sevilla is currently working on building a new private box and a VIP area as part of terms to be met for any stadium hosting such a crucial game for UEFA.

In other words, Sevilla would remodel its Stadium as they also would have to include a third ring so as to increase the field’s capacity.

Sevilla sit at the second place in the Europa group A table after thrashing Qarabag FK 0-3 on their trip to Azerbaijan.

A slight loss to Real Madrid on Sunday saw Sevilla crash down from the top of the league table to the 5th place as Granada’s thrash on FC Barcelona pushes them above to the top.
