Philippe Coutinho has been dealt with a fresh blow as Niko Kovac refuses on playing him alongside Thomas Muller in attacking midfield.

This comes after featuring for 83 minutes in Bayern’s Champions league opener against Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday in which he was replaced by Muller.

According to Kovac, “Muller and Coutinho together in the 10 role would be too attacking. We need a good balance,” Kovac said.

“Never say never, but right now I’d lower the probability.”. This implies one of the two players will have to sit on the bench for the other.

Coutinho’s post-Liverpool days hasn’t quite been remarkable and may even get worse if Bayern boss Kovac decides to hand Thomas Muller the starting opportunity ahead of him.

Bayern have made a not quite impressive start to the new Bundesliga season drawing two and winning just two which has seen them sit at the fifth position on the log. They play host to newly promoted Cologne today and will hope to keep up the pace with the league leaders.
