Wenger Advises Mikel Arteta On What To Do With Mesut Ozil

Iconic ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has laid-off some tips to Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta on how to deal with Midfielder Mesut Ozil’s lingering rift.

The German has not featured for the Gunners since the restart of the league from the Coronavirus break and was dropped from Arsenal’s 25-man premier league squad, with many suggesting his refusal to accept a pay cut as reason for his omission from the Gunners squad.

Arteta however dispelled suggestions of pay cut refusal as reason for his omission from the squad.

According to the Arsenal boss, his drop was actually for ‘football reaons’

“Everybody is free to express his feeling,” he said. “What I can say from my side is that it is just a football decision. My conscience is very calm because I have been really fair with him. My level of communication with him has been really high and we know what to expect with each other.

“Obviously a player of that dimension, with the career he has had, everything that happens around him has a big impact. It has been the case for the last eight years, it is nothing new that is just happening now. A lot of things have happened over these eight years.

“My job is to get the best out of every player, to contribute to the team performance. Here I feel at the moment, today, that I have failed. I want the best possible Mesut for the team. And in some moments I was able to get close to that, and at the moment I have not been able to do it because I have to make the decision to leave him out of the squad.” The Gunners boss said of Ozil’s omission.

Weighing on the whole situation as it affects the Gunners current form thus far this season, Wenger has urged Arteta to bring Ozil back to the squad.

According to the 71-year-old, Arsenal are in dying need of creativity at the moment and the 32-year-old is highly needed to fix the issue.

“I don’t really know the cause, but the Mikel says is strictly football” Wenger told Standard yesterday.

“He’s creative and the most feasible for the team at the moment. I think Mikel can reconsider his stand, its important for this great club”

“Its evident on the pitch. There’s need to have in the squad, i think the situation may change for better”

“15th is not a good place for the club to be. i’ve not spoken with Mikel yet but will do” The legendary manager said.

Ozil won’t be featuring for the Gunners in whatsoever case until at least this January, when the transfer window reopens.

Premier League rules state that Arsenal must submit their 25-man squad by 2pm BST (9am ET) on Tuesday and it must include a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players over the age of 21.

Arteta had 19 to choose from, however, due to the club’s failure to move on some fringe players during the summer transfer window, meaning that two senior stars couldn’t be registered to play during the first half of the season.

Ozil and centre-back Sokratis did not make the squad. The decision came just a week after both were also left out of the squad for the Europa League group stages.

Ozil’s last appearance for Arsenal came in last season’s home win against West Ham, the final match before football was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic in March.

Arsenal had hoped to move Ozil on during the summer transfer window and there was interest in the playmaker from clubs in the Middle East, but he has always maintained he would see out his contract with the Gunners, which runs until 2021.

Should Arteta heed to Wenger’s advise, then The former Real Madrid man will be included in their squads for the second half of their Premier League and Europa League campaigns, which will have to be resubmitted following the January transfer window.
